Licensed BSIS guards for research-adjacent commercial, retail districts, and residential property in the East Bay
Berkeley is defined by research and the university, and the security work here reflects a city built around them. About 120,000 people live in this compact, dense city, and its identity and economy center on UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the hills above it. Around that core sits a real commercial city: the upscale Fourth Street shopping district, a downtown arts-and-dining core near campus, the Telegraph Avenue retail strip, and a research-and-biotech base spun out of the university. Private research buildings, retail districts, and dense residential each need a different plan, and we set it to the property.
ShieldWise Security is a California-licensed private patrol operator (PPO #122008), with officers working across the East Bay. Berkeley is an active service area for us, and its research-adjacent, commercial, and residential mix is the kind of work we staff to the specific site.
A clarification up front: the UC Berkeley campus has its own police and security, and the national laboratory is a federal facility with its own security. We don’t operate inside either. Where we fit is the surrounding private property, research and office buildings, retail, and residential.
Lab, research, and office space tied to the university's research economy but not on campus. Access control, sensitive-area coverage, and detailed reporting. Officers are briefed for a professional, low-profile presence.
Fourth Street, downtown, and Telegraph Avenue each with different dynamics, from upscale shopping to a busy student-area corridor, where loss-prevention, parking coverage, and a steady presence are the priorities.
The theaters, restaurants, and commercial buildings of the downtown core, where evening presence and access control matter for tenants and property managers.
Apartment communities, condos, HOAs, and mixed-use buildings across a compact, heavily populated city, plus construction and tenant-improvement work tied to the city's research and housing development.
Every contract starts with a walk-through. We document entry points, lobbies, parking, lighting, and the hours that carry risk, then write post orders specific to the property. For a research building that means controlled access and sensitive-area procedures; for a retail district it means parking coverage and loss-prevention coordination.
Officers log patrol and access activity through our GuardTrac digital reporting system and write up incidents during the shift. A supervisor reviews the reports, and you receive them on the schedule set in the contract, with a same-shift phone call for anything serious.
Licensing and compliance
Emergency? Call 911 first. ShieldWise Security guards are not a substitute for law enforcement or emergency responders.
Contact ShieldWise Security for a walk-through and a proposal specific to your location. PPO #122008, licensed, bonded, and insured.
Berkeley's research-adjacent buildings, dense retail corridors, and residential streets each carry a different risk profile. The walk-through determines the right patrol and access-control pattern for this specific property.
We document entry points, lighting, blind spots, prior incident history if the property has it, and the hours that actually carry risk.
From that walk-through we write post orders specific to the site, so the officer is not improvising.
Officers log patrol activity through our GuardTrac digital reporting system and write up incidents during the shift, not after.
A supervisor reviews those reports, and you receive them on the schedule set in the contract.
For anything serious, you get a phone call the same shift, not a summary three days later.
