Every contract starts with a walk-through. We document entry points, lobbies, parking, lighting, and the hours that carry risk, then write post orders specific to the property. Officers log patrol and access activity through our digital reporting system and write up incidents during the shift. A supervisor reviews the reports, and you receive them on the schedule set in the contract, with a same-shift phone call for anything serious. For construction and tenant-improvement work, common in a city constantly restoring and rebuilding, we provide gate access logging and patrols, plus fire watch with a documented log when a permit or a fire-system outage requires it.

Pasadena's security needs come from a few very different worlds sitting close together. Caltech and JPL anchor a research economy built on labs, equipment, and intellectual property, where the concern is controlled access and who's allowed into a building, not foot traffic. Huntington Hospital, Kaiser, and the medical campuses around them run on a different clock, open and busy at all hours. Then there's the event side: the Rose Bowl seats nearly 90,000, the Tournament of Roses brings the city to a standstill every New Year's, and Old Pasadena draws weekend crowds into a dense retail district. And since the Eaton Fire tore through Pasadena and Altadena in January 2025, the rebuild has added its own need, with cleared lots, fenced properties waiting on permits, and construction sites that sit exposed overnight.
What we do depends on which of those a property is. On a research or medical campus we build the post around access control and a clear visitor-escort rule, because the risk is an unescorted stranger in a lab, a records area, or a ward, not a smash-and-grab. On an event we plan around crowd flow, credentialed-versus-public zones, and a pre-shift briefing, and we set armed versus unarmed by the event rather than by habit. On a rebuild site we run mobile patrol on randomized timing and write post orders around the equipment and materials left out, since that's what walks in the small hours. We log patrols on GuardTrac with timestamps so the client can see exactly when each round happened.
Now the geography, plainly. ShieldWise is a California-licensed Private Patrol Operator, PPO #122008, headquartered in Riverside, not Pasadena. Are we based in Pasadena? No. A BSIS license is valid statewide, and we serve Pasadena on a contract and project basis. We don't claim a local San Gabriel Valley yard or officers who know every street off Colorado Boulevard, and a closer firm may be the better fit for a small recurring post. Our officers carry current BSIS guard cards under Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations, and on post-fire rebuild work that calls for fire watch, we staff and document it to the California Fire Code. The honest limits. Our unarmed officers observe, document, and escalate; they don't physically intervene in an active-violence situation, and no private officer is a substitute for the police or the fire department. We don't provide executive or close protection. And we'll tell you when a property's risk doesn't justify a full-time post.
